| Abstract:Health system financing covers a wide range of issues from resource mobilization to allocation and use of available funds. Health financing plays critical roles and is a growing concern for health systems. It has increasingly become the central concern of governments and people all over the world as well as a focus of research in global health. This paper draws from international experiences in improving health system financing and social health protection. It begins with a review of the objectives and functions of health system financing, followed by a definition of social health protection and steps to achieve universal coverage. It then considers the challenges in the current environment, and ends with a discussion of strategies used by countries in achieving universal coverage. |
